These hooks were sometimes sold as boxed sets with different sized needles. See G. Chambers & Co. 1848.
Material: steel wire needle, brass collet that may be nickel plated giving it a silver color, bone handle
Use a magnet to test if the fitting is brass or steel. Remove the needle first. Brass is not magnetic whereas steel is. There may be a very slight attraction of the nickel plating to the magnet.
